It's surprising that on the island of Phuket there’s only one course that plays right next to the sea, but at Mission Hills Phuket Golf Resort you get a number of picture-perfect holes of the sort often seen on TV during USPGA events. The course delights in the vivid contrasts of deep blue sea, white beach bunkers and lush greens, views that you can take comfort in while you attempt to master the wind and keep your ball out of the water that features heavily on seven of the holes.
Islands are a recurring theme at Mission Hills - the green at the par-5 2nd is surrounded by water, that of the par-3 4th by sand, and at the 5th you must play from an island tee to an island green whilst avoiding a massive waste bunker and negotiating an awkwardly sloping fairway.
The signature 12th is one long hitters will relish, a 481 yard par-4 requiring a 250 yard carry from the black tips followed by a long, accurate approach to a green guarded by a lake on one side and a deep grassy hollow to the other. Most of us should be happy to settle for a hard-earned bogey whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery.
While the course often plays quite long depending on the prevailing winds, the back nine still offers up opportunities to make up for any dropped shots. The 15th is a short par-5 that’s reachable in two, the 16th a short par-3 where avoiding the bunkers either side of the green and the canal beyond should offer up a birdie opportunity, while the 17th is short par-4 where avoiding the deep hollow to the left of the fairway should leave you in a strong position to attack the green.
The last is a challenging par-4 featuring water all along the right hand side, demanding an accurate drive that avoids the cleverly positioned bunkers. Even a perfect tee shot leaves you with work to do, with a tough approach over water required to reach the final putting surface.
While maintenance of the course, and especially the greens, has been an issue at times, there have been great improvements lately and the greens are now running faster than they have done in the past. The service you’ll receive is first class, and the facilities are decent, if a little run-down in areas. The restaurant serves excellent Thai cuisine that is worth the money, but be aware that the drinks are pretty pricey, but for a holiday visit you may be happy to pay the expense just this once.
Overall, a round at Mission Hills Golf Resort is well worth the money, and should form part of any Phuket Golf Holiday.

Strong wind. No maintenance course
Golf courses originally good design with challenge but big problems the fairway grasses mostly dead and some of the flat bunkers allowed golf carts drive into it. We faced crazy strong wind almost 5-6 holes as it’s near the sea. We think that the landlords don’t do anything at this moment and need new investment such as build up more trees around to keep the property in better conditions. As we played same golf course 9 years ago but it’s better not like this time.Beautifull course, needs a little renovating
Overall nice course. Bunkers need to be renovated, greens er very slow. Fairways and tee spots are good. Caddies are very sweet and funny, but bad english. Services in clubhouse are excellent. Could use a ice cooler on buggy.Bad service . Will not return
